Illinois High School Summer Baseball

The IHSBCA supports the use of summer baseball as way to further the growth of our student athletes and our baseball programs. Head coaches can customize the structure of their summer baseball season to meet the needs of their program.  The scheduling of individual games, tournaments, camps, etc. is determined by each head coach. See guidelines below.

  • Summer League Baseball starting date for 2019 – first Summer Contact Day June 3rd. Players still participating in the IHSA Playoffs are not eligible until their team is eliminated.

  • Graduated seniors are not eligible.

  • Transfer students are eligible to play with their new high school.

Phil Lawler Summer Tournament Information

Since 1976 the IHSBCA has provided all high school programs the opportunity to participate  in a summer state tournament. In 2010 the IHSBCA Board of Directors agreed that the summer state tournament would be called the Phil Lawler Summer Classic.  Below are the guidelines for a high school to enter.

  • The entry fee for summer league baseball is $75 - fee should be paid online or  by check payable to IHSBCA.

  • 2019 Lawler Regionals: July 8th – 11th.

  • Lawler Summer State Finals will be held July 15th through July 18th.

  • Summer league regional directors (regional host head coach) will contact teams for the records for seeding purposes. Your summer league fee must be paid before seeding.  Regional directors will combine spring and summer win to seed teams. Number of summer wins is the tiebreaker.

  • Regional host: 1. St. Charles East 2. Grayslake Central 3. Lake Park 4. Lyons Township 5. Palatine 6. Lockport 7. Richards 8. Glenbard South.

  • The higher seeded team will be home team throughout the regional.

  • Each team will provide two baseballs each game of the regional.

  • Each team will be billed for one umpire each game of the regional

  • Coach must be a high school certified coach.

  • Suspended games will be picked up at the point of interruption unless the game is official (4 ½ innings).

  • No protest allowed.

 

IHSBCA Sophomore Summer Tournament

Below are the guidelines for a high school to enter.  

  • The entry fee for summer league baseball is $75 - fee should be paid online or by check payable to IHSBCA

  • 2019 Summer Sophomore Regionals: July 8th – 11th

  • Semifinals/Championship games will be held at Trout Park (Elgin) on July 15 (Game times 2:30, 5:00, and 7:30)

  • The higher seeded team will be home team throughout the regional.

  • During Semi Finals/Championship games at Trout Park, home team will be determined by coin flip prior to the start of the game.

  • Home team will provide umpire and game balls.

  • IHSBCA will provide umpires/game balls at Trout Park for Semi Finals/Championship games

  • Suspended games will be picked up at the point of interruption unless the game is official (4 ½ innings).

  • No protest allowed.
